After a dry spell that lasted waay too long, I was sitting in math class today, absent-mindedly doodling, when I realized that my hand was doing something without my knowledge. I focused on the movement of my pencil, (completely disregarding the math lesson which I already knew, anyway,) and, by the end of class, I had a rough, small sketch; a nude, a girl sitting on an elegant chair.
Later on in the evening, I pulled out the sketch, and began to reconstruct it, adding detail, changing things, and working it over until it satisfied me.
As I pulled back to survey my handiwork, I did a small double-take. I couldn't believe that I had drawn what was on the page in front of me. Not because I think it was a masterpiece, or anything- but because, well- it was pretty good. Especially for my first full human, especially after at least a year long dry spell. I'd never drawn this well before, and I really loved it.
So, I guess you can learn something from dummy math- like the fact that, whether or not I realized it at the time, I'm learning more about the human figure, and how to capture it on paper. I have a load of work to do, and what I posted is far from perfect, but consider it a promise of things to come in the hopefully near future.
'Til next time!!
